2s miss out at Whitminster

Another top of the table clash between Whitminster and Minch was always going to be close hard fought game of cricket and Saturdays game certainly didn’t disappoint. Minch won the toss and batted on a hot day and a hard track. Minch started cautiously until Tom Richings (in a rich vein of good form) decided to push on launching a huge 6. However Minch lost Creadon for 10 to a rash shot. This brought Matt Hole to the crease and Hole and Richings batted well and put the bad balls away effectively. Richings notched up a third successive 2nd XI 50 batting with skill and composure. Hole fell to one big shot to many for a quick fire 20. Skipper Shearman joined Richings with the ambition of upping the rate and setting a big score. Getting off the mark with a 4, runs started to flow through Shearman until Richings had a momentary loss of concentration and was bowled. Shearman kept the run rate going ably supported by Will Fortune. With a 50 partnership in the bag and wickets in hand Shearman looked to attack, however a good Yorker saw him on his way for a crisp 48. Fortune kept on attacking and took Minch to 187 for 5. A good score but a little below par on such a goo batting track

In reply Whitminster came out firing and were 33 for none from 10 overs, M Cole bowling with particular control in his opening spell. A good base to attack for Minch but some wayward bowling followed meant that Whitminster picked up the tempo . Chris Beer while expensive managed to take 3 key wickets, one of which was superbly caught by Adam Douch. Despite the early wickets Whitminster kept the board ticking. Minch needed breakthroughs and fast. Shearman took the ball and bowled with control and accuracy to create some pressure. The game was in the balance when Shearman removed the whitminster no 3 however this was to be the last wicket, as Lovegrove and Cook both reached 40s. Whitminster batting with patience and control put away anything lose and saw them home with 6 overs to spare for a well earned victory. A cracking hard fought game played in the true spirit of cricket.
